Renia White (Ree-nee-uhh) is a writer & writing instructor originally from PG County, Maryland. She came of age in Riverdale, GA before returning to the DMV for college—earning her BA in Journalism at Howard University while training in the journalism/media field via various internships. A domestic exchange semester spent in NY, taking English classes at Columbia & Barnard, connected her to the energy of the city to which she’d return after earning her MFA.
She studied at Cornell University with a concentration in poetry and, there, began teaching university writing. She has since taught a variety of writing courses at Cornell, Pratt Institute, The School of the New York Times, The New School’s Parsons School of Design, and NJIT (New Jersey Institute of Technology). Her first book Casual Conversation, was published spring of 2022 by BOA Editions, Ltd. and was named a Blessing the Boats Selection, chosen by editor-at-large Aracelis Girmay. Her work has been published in various publications including The Audacity, the Academy of American Poets' Poem-a-Day series, Poetry Daily, Slice Magazine, The Recluse, NO NIIN Magazine, and elsewhere.
She lives in Brooklyn, NY and teaches in NJ in addition to being at work on a few poetry and prose projects. These days, she’s doing her best—considering. She hopes you’ll reach out if you want to work with her. She wishes you poetry.
